ABOUT US
The Central Purchasing Department was established on
April 1st, 1971 by the Financial (Supplies) Rules 1971 made by the
Cabinet Of Barbados under the authority of Section 37 of the Financial
Administration and Audit Act, 1964 (1964-23).
The Central Purchasing
Department was re-designated The Government Procurement Department
(GPD) in 2018.
Pursuant to an Act of Parliament,
namely the Public Procurement Act, 2021 the mandate of the Government
Procurement Department was validated to provide guidance towards
sustainable procurement for the framework and procedures that will govern the
Public Procurement of Goods, Works, and Services. It purposed to establish a
Public Procurement Department to promote transparency, accountability, and
integrity in Public Procurement and for connected matters.
The Government Procurement Department
is within the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment. It is
headed by a Chief Procurement Officer, and a Deputy Chief
Procurement Officer.
